Wedding DJAnswered by Midlands DJ

What does a professional, elite Midlands Wedding DJ charge?

Expect to pay from R17,000 upwards for a professional, elite Wedding DJ in the KZN Midlands. Experience is key: you are paying for years of wedding experience: a DJ who reads the room and keeps the evening flowing from the ceremony to the last song.

Professional DJs in this range also include DMX intelligent lighting, not just simple “dance floor lighting”. Where you land depends on your guest numbers, ceremony and canapé sound, lighting and travel to your venue.

How far ahead should we book our Wedding DJ?

Professional Wedding DJs are booked 12 to 18 months in advance, and peak-season Saturdays go first. Booking about 12 months out gives you a good chance of getting your preferred DJ. If your wedding is sooner, check your date anyway: it may still be open.

What is included in a wedding DJ package?

Sound for the ceremony, background music for canapés and the cocktail hour, reception entertainment, dance floor lighting, cordless Shure microphones, and battery-powered sound for ceremony spots without power. Setup and breakdown are part of the package.

What kind of music do you play?

Mostly popular music from the last 20 years, plus older sing-along classics that get every generation onto the dance floor. Send us your favourite songs and must-plays, and have a look at the wedding song suggestions if you want somewhere to start.

Do you take song requests on the night?

Yes, requests are welcome all evening. Your DJ uses their judgement on when to play them, because the goal is a dance floor that stays full and music that flows.

Our ceremony is outdoors with no electricity. Can you still do sound?

Yes. Battery-powered PA systems run for up to 5 hours with a wireless microphone, so gardens, forests and bush chapels are no problem and load shedding does not come into it. Your officiant and your vows will be heard clearly.

What happens if equipment fails?

Our DJs carry backup sound gear from brands like RCF, Shure and Pioneer DJ. Speakers have their own built-in amplifiers, so if one goes down the rest keep playing, and a spare mixer and laptop come to every wedding.

Is lighting included?

Dance floor lighting is included. Our professional setups use DMX intelligent lighting: LED moving heads and colour washes that change with each part of the day and move with the music. Uplighting, LED tubes and cold sparks can be added on.

Will the DJ we book be the one who plays at our wedding?

Yes. You choose your DJ from our Midlands Wedding DJs, and that DJ plays your wedding. The collective only steps in if something unforeseen stops your DJ from being there.

What time does the DJ arrive?

At least two hours before the ceremony, so around 1pm for a 3pm start. The music is already playing when your first guests walk in.

What do we need to provide?

The venue needs to supply a standard trestle table, a tablecloth and a power outlet.

Do you offer photobooths too?

Yes, through our partner Midlands Photobooths: DSLR cameras, studio lighting and instant prints, with or without booking a DJ. See wedding photobooths.

Do you travel to the Drakensberg?

Yes. Our DJs play weddings across the KZN Midlands and the Drakensberg. Travel fees depend on the distance to your venue.

How do we book?

Check your date with our availability checker, or contact us. Once you have your quote, a booking retainer secures the date. The full terms are in the terms and conditions.

PhotoboothsAnswered by our partner, Midlands Photobooths

How do I make a booking?

We make the booking process very simple and hassle-free. Once we have received your go-ahead, we will send you our banking details for a booking fee payment. This is to be paid within 24 hours. Your booking form, which was sent to you along with proof of payment, is also required within this time frame. If we do not receive both these documents, we release the date and assume you have booked another provider.

How does the booth work?

Guests simply stand in front of the backdrop and listen to one of our friendly assistants as they explain the procedure. But it’s simple — watch the screen, wait for the countdown and SMILE! The camera takes 3 or 4 photos (depending on your choice) approx 4 seconds apart. Your photo appears on the screen once it has been taken and the booth proceeds to the next one. On completion, your photo is printed instantly.

How much space is required for the booth?

The booth requires a space of approx 3m x 3m and can fit between 1 and 15 persons at any one time (you keen to set a new record?).

What is the difference between a photobooth template and a photobooth backdrop?

A template is the design you see on the actual photo print itself. This has your name, company logo or theme design on it and is pre-designed to suit your function. A backdrop is what you will be standing in front of when having your photo taken at the booth. You can see our backdrops here.

Are your backdrops free or do we have to pay for them?

We offer our range of backdrops FREE with any printing package.

What happens if I cancel my booking?

This depends on when you cancel. Our cancellation policy is stated in our terms and conditions, however if you cancel your event within 1 month of your event date, a 100% cancellation fee is due. Your 50% booking fee is non-refundable.

Can we put the backdrop outdoors?

No, unfortunately these backdrops are designed for indoors ONLY. The backdrops are 2.4m (W) x 2.4m (H) and act as a sail outdoors. We certainly don’t want your guests to be injured due to a slight breeze or gust. Should you have a verandah area, undercover, with a solid wall or backing, an attempt can be made to set up a backdrop.

We are having over 200 guests at our event — are you able to offer unlimited printing?

Yes, we cater for any number of guests. We have multiple printers which are able to all print simultaneously. A quote would be sent to you according to your requirements. All quotes are date, venue and requirement specific.

Photostrips print duplicate strips, but can we also have duplicate postcard prints?

Yes, absolutely! All of our postcard print packages automatically print 1 copy per session, however you are welcome to chat to us when making your booking and we can offer you our “Duplicate Postcard Reprint” option, which allows for 2 postcards per session. This is an additional fee.

Can I get copies of the photos?

Our standard package includes a duplicate set of photostrips or 1 x postcard photo. Extra copies can be added to your invoice should you require this. With any of our packages you will also receive a digital link via email.

Can we get all the original photos from the photobooth?

Yes, of course you can. A digital link will be sent to you with all the photostrips, however all the original images are saved and can be sent to you at a cost of R295.00. Remember, depending on your photostrip configuration, you could end up with 300+ original images, so this is a great add-on. Images are only kept for up to 3 months (90 days).

How many photos can we take per hour?

How long is a piece of string? Well… this depends on the template design configuration, but we can print up to 100 photos per hour. This also depends on your guests and your schedule for your event.

What else is required from me?

A regular electric power outlet within 5 metres of the photobooth area is required. Our teams have a 5m extension on hand at every event. Should this exceed 5 metres, please provide a longer extension as required. A small table for our props will also be required in the area you would like us set up in. We will also need access to your venue about 1 hour prior to the start time of your booking.

Is there a minimum hire time?

The standard photobooth hire is for 3 hours – this would be suitable for an event with up to 100 guests. Should you have more guests attending, we suggest a 4 hour package or more. We reserve the right to implement a “minimum duration” at our own discretion based on your venue location and logistics. A minimum hire time of 4 hours is required for all KZN Midlands venues or venues more than 80km from our offices. A minimum hire time of 4 hours also applies to peak periods and at our discretion of your enquiry.
